Meet CARE Acting Chief Amy Smith, who has quietly been working in the background for 18 months to plan and pilot Seattle’s third public safety department CARE, Community Assisted Response and Engagement. With the help of $1.9 million in federal funding, the pilot is now being expanded to more Seattle neighborhoods. With it, the possibility that the Seattle 911 system will permanently have the behavioral health and addiction expertise to effectively diversify the 911 emergency response, determine appropriate assistance, and still ensure that the highest priority incidents receive critical police and fire services.

Learn how CARE expands the health and public safety of our neighborhood with behavioral health specialists, tests promising new approaches like the current dual dispatch pilot and ensures that data drives decisions on a platform built for continual improvement.
