In Slipstream, Susan Dory explores the psychology of color, memory, and perception through a dynamic investigation of form and structure.
Opening Reception: Sat, May 31 from 4-6pm
Exhibition Run: May 8-Jun 21, 2025
Inspired by Bridget Riley’s philosophy on color’s expressive power, Dory delves into how color functions as both a personal and collective experience—imbued with meaning, emotion, and transformation.
Her work navigates the tension between the visible and the hidden, the known and the unknowable. Drawing from Eastern metaphysics, she considers the elusive nature of consciousness and the fluidity of perception, embracing abstraction as an open-ended inquiry rather than a definitive statement. Through geometric grids, layered compositions, and organic forms, she creates a visual language that mirrors the complexities of memory and time.
At its core, Slipstream is an invitation to slow down and engage deeply with the act of seeing. Dory’s paintings offer a moment of pause in an increasingly fast-paced world, encouraging contemplation, interconnectedness, and the simple pleasure of perception in its purest, most analog form.
