Join us for an inspiring artist lecture by Sheldon Scott, a multifaceted artist whose work explores the intersections of race, sexuality, and economic forces.
Born and raised in Pawley’s Island in the Gullah/Geechee Lowcountry of South Carolina, Scott now resides in Washington, DC, where his practice spans performance, sculpture, installation, photography, drawing, and film.
Scott’s critically acclaimed work challenges mythologies of Black male supernaturality and has been showcased at prestigious venues such as the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Delaware State University, Art Miami, and the David C. Driskell Center. His pieces are included in the collections of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture and The Ogden Museum of Southern Art.
A dynamic speaker and thought leader, Scott has been a TEDx Mid-Atlantic presenter and a finalist for the National Portrait Gallery’s 2019 Outwin-Boochever Portrait Competition. He is also the Global Head of Purpose at Eaton Workshop and serves on the boards of several cultural and educational organizations.
